RUSSIAN ROOTS PLUS "MEET THE DANCER" PRIVATE BACKSTAGE TOUR |
At 6:30 PM we have a private tour to "Meet A Dancer". Before the ballet our Real Live People Party members will be treated to a private 45 minute talk with one of the dancers. The principal dancer will escort us and share insights into the life of a dancer and answer any questions about the performance we will be attending. He or she will also share interesting moments from the history of both NYCB and their home the New York State Theater. The breathtaking highlight of the evening will be the view of the auditorium from on-stage. How cool is that!
At 8:00 PM we will be seated for the ballet.
NOTE: Our tickets are in the 4th ring seating area. If you'd like to join us for this event but sit in the Orchestra seats, please email me and I'll send you a money request for payment for Orchestra seats at $85.00 which includes the backstage tour.
RUSSIAN ROOTS:
Jerome Robbins' Russian roots ran deep. Andatino is a lilting pas de deux suffused with the sweetness and promise of youth - it is a gentle beauty. In Opus 19/The Dreamer, set to Prokofiev's 1923 Violin Concerto No 1 in D Major, one can hear the surging tides of the Russian Revolution as a male protagonist pursues an elusive vision. Like Andantino, Piano Pieces was a hit of the 1981 Tschaikovsky Festival. Playful and joyous, it is filled with the unmistakable exuberance of the Russian national Character. Les Noces, a monumental work of genius, is primitive, overpowering, and raw ritual. Requiring massive forces, this is the first time New York City Ballet will fulfill Stravinsky and Robbins' vision of Les Noces as it was originally conceived.
It is the season's must-see Ballet.
Andantino: Music by Peter Ilyitch Tschaikovsky
Opus 19/The Dreamer: Music by Sergei Prokofiev
Piano Pieces: Music by Peter Ilyitch Tschaikovsky
Les Noces (New Production) Music by Igor Stravinsky
